The three Stockport spots in the finals of the British Takeaway Awards 2021

Did your favourite takeaway make the cut?

It’s that time of the year again: The prestigious British Takeaway Awards are back for their 2021 round up, and some real local corkers have made the cut.

The British Takeaway Awards, in association with Just Eat, describe themselves as ‘the Oscars of the takeaway world’ – and let me tell you, minus the presence of Brad Pitt and George Clooney, they really aren’t far off it.

So far, they’ve hosted five award evenings that shine a light on the most elite independent takeaway spots across the whole of the UK, separating their awards ceremonies into twelve regional categories.

And this year, in the North West category, three Stockport establishments made the cut. Yes, three! Though are we really surprised?

First up, we have The Bun & Bones Club, a local burger joint that’s been rustling up (arguably) the best burgers in the whole of Stockport. They have an extensive menu boasting a whole selection of wonderfully messy loaded burgers, such as the Picmac, which comes with two beef patties, cheese, smoked bacon, salad and a grilled mac and cheese ‘puck’ wedged where the Big Mac bread would normally be found, and the sloppiest ever Sloppy Joe, which comes topped with two beef patties, house chilli, grilled halloumi and lashings of baconnaise.

Next on the list we have LAPD Food, a true Stockport gem that offers all the comforting takeaway classics such as pizzas, burgers, kebabs, fried chicken and wraps. Everything is freshly cooked in house and very reasonably priced, so you won’t be taking out a mortgage on your cheeky takeaway treat.

LAPD actually made it to the British Takeaway Awards final in 2020, but was beaten to the throne by Warrington takeout Brothers Burgers… So maybe 2021 is their year!

And last but certainly not least, we have The Spinn, owned by ex-Emmerdale star Adam Thomas and his mate Scott Graham. The Spinn has gained quite the reputation for itself among locals for their epic menu of Signature burgers, wraps, fries and, of course, wings, which you can get slathered in one of eight of Scott’s home made Oh My Glazes sauces.

The eventual winner of the highly sought-after award will receive £1,000 in cash, £200 to spend at Just Eat and an exclusive trophy. From here they’ll get entered into the ‘Best Takeaway in Britain’ category alongside all of the other regional winners, and if they win that – they’ll get £5k in cash a trophy and a media support package from Just Eat.

The British Takeaway Awards 2021 will be taking place this Monday 6th September – to vote for your favourite takeaway, visit the website here.

Cadbury launches Dairy Milk chocolate choux pastry éclairs with a Cadbury Flake

Cadbury has done it again!

It isn’t unreasonable to argue that éclairs are perhaps the best sweet treat going in the dessert world.

The French pastries – or the pain à la Duchesse, if you want to get technical – have become massively popular on this end of the pond for their pastry cream fillings and delicious fondant  toppings.

And now, just when you thought these tasty pastries couldn’t get any better, Cadbury has unveiled its very own range of éclairs, complete with Dairy Milk chocolate and fresh cream.

And before you try to say that Cadbury Eclairs have been around for years; these are a little different.

While Cadbury has indeed been selling their small toffee ‘eclairs’ for decades (the ones found in the bottom of a tub of Heroes), their latest invention are authentic choux pastry eclairs.

The tasty treats, which are already been spotted in supermarkets by a number of excited Instagrammers, are described as being, ‘Choux pastry eclairs filled with cream and topped with Dairy Milk chocolate topping decorated with a Cadbury’s Flake.’

Yep, they even come with a Flake.

You can now buy a two-pack of Cadbury Chocolate Eclairs for just £2 in all Asda stores now.

Cadbury

This comes just after the launch of Cadbury’s ‘half and half Creme Eggs’ competition, which sees 146 half milk and half white chocolate Creme Eggs hidden in various retailers across the country, each of which boast generous cash prizes.

But there’s a catch; each half and half Creme Egg are wrapped up in regular Creme Egg packaging, so hunting one down is going to be quite the challenge.

Each egg is worth a different sum of money, too; there are just six eggs worth £10,000, three eggs worth £5,000, four eggs carrying a £1,000 prize, twelve eggs worth £500 and the remainder carrying £50 prizes.

For more information and to read the full terms and conditions, head over to the Cadbury website.

In 2022’s most exciting food news yet, Stockport’s award-winning pie butty and wigan kebab shop has announced its big move to Manchester’s city centre.

After transforming his existing Stockport site into a late night dive bar, the head-chef and owner of Ate Days A Week Andy James has confirmed that he will be bringing his pies to the city centre in a venue ‘close to Albert Square’.

Andy announced on Instagram: “This wasn’t an easy decision to make but the way the last year has panned out it just makes sense for us to move Ate Days A Week to a site that allows us to continue to push on with what we do, get bigger and better and fully flourish as a seriously good restaurant in a location that will also play a vital part to that.”

Details on the exact location are yet to be confirmed, though it is known that the new venue will be called Come Together and will see an expanded menu of pies, sandwiches, fish and chips, bangers and mash, and even Sunday roasts on the weekend.

The restaurant will be quite intimate with just thirty-six covers, and will also include a Pie & Pastry Counter for those looking for a quick lunch on the go.

And did we mention their legendary Wigan kebabs?

For those of you with innocent eyes, ears and stomachs; a Wigan kebab is basically a pie slapped in between a barm, and Ate Days A Week have been making God-tier ones, complete with minted peas and gravy.

And, of course, we can also expect to see some old favourites from the Ate Days A Week menu too, such as the Bartender & The Beef sandwich; slow-cooked ale beef, red wine sautéed onions and Welsh rarebit all served within a rosemary focaccia alongside a pot of red wine gravy for dipping.

This won’t be Andy’s first time in the city centre following a successful stint in Hatch, so we can expect some seriously good stuff from his next venture.

Make sure to follow Ate Days A Week on Instagram to stay posted with any news and updates for the launch of Come Together.

Some exciting food news to kickstart the year…

The fried chicken legends over at Kong’s Chicken Shop are set to launch their very own American diner right in the heart of Manchester.

Kong’s, the very place that sent the city into a frenzy with its fried chicken Sunday roast last year, was born out of the popular Northern Quarter ramen spot, CBRB, where it operated on a collection and delivery basis.

Thanks to its success however, Kong’s has been quick to grow and, in its short life, has held residencies in a number of city centre venues such as Foundation Coffee on Portland Street, Northern Monk Refectory, The Head of Steam in Didsbury Village and, most recently, Clubhouse in Spinningfields.

And now, Kong’s has its sights set upon its next venture; this month, the fried chicken connoisseurs will be launching their very own American-style diner in Dog Bowl on Whitworth Street.

The diner will specialise in sandwiches, with the menu already boasting some some seriously tasty new additions, including the Kong’s Buffalo & Blue Cheese Sandwich – fried chicken topped with a blue cheese dressing, crumbled blue cheese, chives, and slaw – and Kong’s Bombay Chicken Sandwich – curry-salted fried chicken thigh, madras mayo, raita, coconut, crispy shallots and pickles.

The Diner sandwich menu also includes Kong’s Cheeseburger – two beef patties, aged cheddar and chunky burger sauce – and the classic Philly Cheesesteak -hanger steak, caramelised onions, provolone cheese, smoked cheddar and mustard mayo.

There will also be a number of ‘plates’ options on the menu for those fancying something a little different, with tempting additions like Buffalo Chicken Poutine, Hanger Steak Poutine, and Nashville Fish & Chips.

And it’s worth mentioning that Kong’s don’t mess about when it comes to sides; their fried chicken can be accompanied by Kong’s Slaw, Onion Rings, Buffalo Blue Cheese Fries and a range of BBQ chicken wings and tenders.

Kong’s will be opening in Dog Bowl next week on January 19th and, to celebrate, will be offering 25% off food for all bookings in its first week.

Head over to the Kong’s Instagram page for news and updates, and drop an email to reception@blackdogballroom.co.uk to make a booking.
