Kebabistan in Preston has challenged anyone to eat the burger in 20 minutes, and if they can they will win a £1,000 food voucher to spend at the New Hall Lane takeaway.

The challenge will take place post lockdown, but Yunus Sevinik, owner of Kebabistan, has said the takeaway has already had three contenders interested in taking part.

The burger is the size of a very large pizza and normally costs £35, and it’s already proving really popular with regular customers.

The takeaway has been open for two years now, making freshly made food with quality ingredients.

The bumper lamb burger contains 2kg of meat, which is topped with cheese, salad, pickled cucumber and tomato, and could feed up to 10 people – it’s only been on the menu for three weeks.

Speaking to the Lancashire Post, Yunus said: “People are ordering it. It’s very popular now. “

The menu includes European style Turkish kebabs cooked on charcoal and has even ‘banned’ chips from the menu. He said: “This is my style. Whenever people ask me why are my prices a bit up I tell them I do home made, I don’t buy cheap products.”

When speaking about the contenders for the challenge, he said “They say they can… I don’t think so!”.

Last year, in a similar style, Yunus created a two metre long wrap which the winner ate in just nine minutes, so maybe he will be handing over that £1,000 voucher pretty soon after all.

There’s a brand new bar opening in Withington specialising in tequila and tacos – meet Southside Tequila Joint.

It’s one of the (very) few good things to come out of lockdown, a brand new bar on Wilmslow Road. With lockdown taking away any open date pressures, the guys behind this new venture could really hone in on exactly what they wanted this bar to be.

And that they did.

Southside Tequila Joint is in the old Solomon’s spot, and is actually the love child of Solomons’ owners Ruper Cade and Rick McClean with the addition of the man behind Crazy Pedro’s, Bunny Jackson’s and Wolf at the Door, Lyndon Higginson.

Throughout lockdown they’ve been putting a shift in getting this place just about perfect for a grand opening next week.

They’ve opened up the bar adding boujee booth seating and adding an impressive terrace outback complete with mismatched furniture.

That’s not the end of the updates either, they’ve opened up downstairs to give way to loads more seating and even another bar.

They’ve also fixed that age-old problem we all have. You know when it’s time to go home on a night out but you really want just one last drink on your way home? Southside is gonna be open until 2am every night. Yep, you read that right.

There will be a huge range of tequilas on offer – word on the street is that it will be on of the best in the country.

And for when you get a bit peckish, tacos from the newly refurbished kitchen!

Southside Tequila Joint is opening on July 8th at 5pm. Call 0161 434 123 for bookings. Keep up to date on their Instagram here

Anyone going to Wetherspoons will have to fill in a form before entering the pub

It’s part of the new government guidelines…

As part of the Government’s Test and Trace policy, Wetherspoons will be refusing entry to customers who do not fill out a short form.

This weekend the hospitality industry is set to reopen, which will see the much-anticipated reopening of pubs, restaurants, bars and cafes – but they are going to look a lot different than they did when they closed back in March.

As part of its reopening plan, Wetherspoons has announced that anyone wishing to eat or drink in the restaurant will have to fill out a short form.

A spokesperson for the pub chain said: “Wetherspoon will introduce NHS Test and Trace in all its pubs in England from reopening on Saturday July 4.

“Wetherspoon is to ask customers to fill out a short form, each time they visit, which contains their name and telephone number.”

JD Wetherspoon

They continued: “Customers will be asked to record their arrival and departure times, and to leave the form in a box as they exit.

“The forms will be stored confidentially for 21 days. After that, they can be safely disposed of.”

The new system has been put in place by the government to ensure that localised outbreaks of coronavirus can be controlled.

The guidance from the government says: “You should assist this service by keeping a temporary record of your customers and visitors for 21 days, in a way that is manageable for your business, and assist NHS Test and Trace with requests for that data if needed. This could help contain clusters or outbreaks.”

JD Wetherspoon

Alongside the short form, Wetherspoons will look a little different inside, including plastic screens, disposable menus and ordering on an app.

The menus will also be slightly shorter than usual and the usual condiment caddies will be replaced with disposable sachets of sauces.

The pubs will also have a one way entrance and exist system where possible, multiple hand sanitising stations and a dedicated member of staff cleaning touch points throughout the day.

Are you heading out to the pubs this weekend?
