There’s a brand new club night for people who want to go out and have a good time but still get home in time for a decent night’s sleep.

‘Fresh as a Daisy’ will cater for those who love a party AND a good snooze, and is set to hit Bolton this weekend.

The event, which will be on from 7pm until 11pm, will see local DJ John Leather return to play in his hometown for the first time in five years.

He’ll be playing four hours of indie anthems, with John saying he was inspired by former BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac’s recent event down in London called ‘Before Midnight’.

John told the Manchester Evening News: “She’s pioneering a similar thing in London and as a concept, I want to give it a go.

“I think with the way nights out are going, it’s fair to say that the traditional club scene is weaker than it’s ever been. Covid’s had a part to play and I think at this time, the culture of going out earlier is becoming more viable.

“It’s aimed at people who are weekend conscious, people who don’t want to ruin their weekend, who want to go out and have a good time but also be home early. It’ll be indie anthems for a crowd who want to get out early, party early and home for a certain time.”

When he first came on the scene, John initially made a name for himself by putting on indie nights at the now-closed Kico and Blind Tiger venues in Bolton, and is currently on the line-up for Manchester Adored at Bowlers Exhibition Centre in September.

However, John hasn’t been DJing as much recently. He said: “I’ve got a condition called ulcerative colitis which can affect me from time to time with gigs and I’ve had to turn down a few festival slots but hoping I’m getting well enough to get back on the scene.

“It’s been nearly five years since I’ve been back in Bolton. I had quite a bit of success at Kico and Blind Tiger and I feel like the time’s right to give it another go and try and launch another indie night within the town centre.”

According to the event description: “Expect to hear the finest indie classics from the ages from the likes of Joy Division/Pulp/Stone Roses/Arctic Monkeys/Courteeners/Oasis/New Order/Blur/Franz Ferdinand/Gorillaz/James/Jamie T/Kings Of Leon/Kasabian/Ocean Colour Scene/Libertines/Stereophonics/The Strokes/Subways/Happy Mondays/Primal Scream/Florence and The Machine/Arcade Fire and much more.”

The launch event is happening this Saturday, June 11th, at RokitV5 in the Vaults at Bolton Market Place, from 7pm-11pm, and if it goes well John has said it could turn into a monthly night.
