The Manchester 24 Hour Run Against Homelessness / Facebook
Get your trainers at the ready: There’s a twenty-four hour run taking place next week to raise money for homelessness charities across Manchester.
For the third year, the Manchester 24 Hour Run will be hosting its massive twenty-four hour long relay run – a cumulative total of around 1400km, the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats – to raise over £3,000 for the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity and their ‘A Bed Every Night‘ Scheme.
This project provides a comfy bed, a warm welcome, and personal support for anyone sleeping rough on Manchester’s streets – over the last year, A Bed Every Night has improved and evolved into provision for everyone who need it, ‘no matter what’.
So, how does the race work?
Runners will be meeting at the University of Manchester Students’ Union at any time during the twenty-four hours, from midday on Wednesday November 17th until the same time on Thursday November18th.
There, participants will be greeted by a team of volunteers who will then lead them around each 5km lap through the city. Runners can run for as many laps as they’d like or as they can muster across the twenty-four hours time period, with each lap taking somewhere between thirty to forty-five minutes.
There will also be three different walking waves available at 4pm, 6pm, 8pm and 7.30am, setting off alongside the running waves.
And you don’t even have to be in Manchester to take part and make a difference; runners can also join the event virtually, running wherever they are and for as long as they like within the twenty-four hour time period.
All they’ll need to do is log their miles and add them to the total distance, either manually or via Strava, over on the website.
If you’re wanting to take part in the run, all you’ll need to do is arrive at the Manchester University Student’s Union between Wednesday November 17th and Thursday November 18th.
