You don’t have to be a wine snob to go on this!

A Manchester-based food and drink writer has set up a new wine tour of the city to show you the best places to eat, drink and be merry.

Kelly Bishop, a qualified wine teacher, is on a mission to introduce novices and wine experts alike to the city centre venues which serve the best bottles in town, with her new series of exciting Manchester Wine Tours.

Along the way, Kelly will guide groups of no more than 12 people on a leisurely three-hour jaunt where they’ll be able to sample a few glasses en route.

Venues will vary from one tipsy tour to another as each wine bar, restaurant, pub or wine shop is specially selected by the expert herself because it offers the most interesting range of bottles in Manchester.

The wine tours will be a great opportunity to try something different in a relaxed environment and meet people while discovering your new favourite vino.

Think of it as a kind of posh pub crawl and take a friend or family member with you while you have fun learning plenty about wine and Manchester along the way.

On this wine tasting ‘with legs’, guests will have the opportunity to learn about wine in a more sociable and informal way, with no previous expertise needed.

Kelly says of the tours: “I started Manchester Wine Tours to celebrate the incredible wine offering in Manchester. Manchester is known for great restaurants and bars selling nationally celebrated craft beer and cocktails, but there is a really impressive wine scene here too.

“I’m passionate about wine and am really excited to share my knowledge and enthusiasm with locals and tourists alike.

“I want to show people that although this might be classed as a ‘high-end activity’ with really good quality wine and matching snacks, wine tasting definitely doesn’t have to be snobby or stuffy.

“I want it to appeal to anyone over 18 who is interested in wine and introduce them to some of my favourite wine spots in Manchester.”

Tours start this October with the first events on Sunday 22nd and Sunday 29th (3-6pm). From November onwards, tours will be every Wednesday evening (7-10pm) and Sunday afternoon (3-6pm).

There will also be four special Xmas tours on December 10th, 13th, 17th and 20th. December tours are £100 per person and will feature extra special wines and festive snacks.

Avril Lavigne is coming to Manchester to perform a huge outdoor gig at Castlefield Bowl next summer.

The Canadian singer-songwriter has announced two outdoor shows in the UK in 2024.

She will be performing at Cardiff Castle on July 2nd before heading to Manchester to play at Castlefield Bowl on July 3rd, as part of the Sounds Of The City series.

The star will be supported by Canadian rock band Simple Plan, best known for their song ‘I’m Just a Kid’.

Lavigne enjoyed success with her pop-punk songs in the noughties, including the hits ‘Sk8er Boi’, ‘Complicated’ and ‘Girlfriend’.

She is best known for her monochrome punk-style, smokey eyes and long blonde hair – something every skater girl wannabe copied.

The punk-pop star shared her latest studio album back in February 2022 under the title ‘Love Sux’. She later released an expanded deluxe version of the LP in November of that year.

She has received eight Grammy Awards nominations, including Best New Artist.

The UK tour will be a celebration of her Love Sux album and will be part of wider touring throughout Europe in 2024, taking place at festivals including I Days in Milan on July 9th, Festival de Nîmes in Nîmes on July 10th, and Festival Cruïlla in Barcelona on July 12th.

The singer is yet to announce any more UK dates as of yet, but the upcoming dates in Manchester and Cardiff won’t be her only shows lined up for next summer.

Tickets to see Avril Lavigne perform next year will go on sale this Friday, December 1st, at 10am and will be available to buy HERE.
