Woman who married her duvet says it was ‘love at first sight’

A woman appeared on TV after she chose to commit to her duvet in a wedding ceremony, in a bid to highlight loneliness.

Pascale Sellick, 49, a Devon-based artist, chose to wear her ‘bedding dress’ for her big day back in 2019.

This included pyjamas and slippers as part of the unusual ceremony, which she described as the most ‘intimate and reliable’ relationship of her life.

Around 120 guests attended the event, held in Exeter, and there was an open invitation for members of the public to come – provided they also wore their bedroom attire.

Ms Sellick enlisted the help of her friend and fellow artist Anna Fitzgerald as her wedding planner to help organise the event to celebrate her love for her duvet, saying: “It was love at first sight, I think.

“I’ve had other duvets before, but always loyal to this one.”

The duvet’s outfit featured slogans such as, ‘Duvet, I love you’ and ‘Be unique’.

Ms Sellick – who has a long-term human boyfriend called Johnny – shared that her relationship with the duvet is not a sexual one, but is ‘a close friendship’ and the wedding is a symbolic expression of art to help highlight loneliness. 

Ms Sellick shared how her special day was meant to be about self-love and self-care, especially for those who may feel lonely particularly around Valentine’s Day.

She said: “It’s kind of a message around Valentine’s; people can feel sometimes a little bit lonely, so it’s like actually you know what, take some time for self-worth, self-care and have some time under your duvet and marry your bedding.

“Why not? Everybody loves their duvet!”

According to the ‘wedding register’, the duvet’s surname is ’10 tog’ – it’s not known if Ms Sellick will be changing her last name, however.
