It’s no secret that Northern is currently operating an awful service around the region, with delays, overcrowding and cancellations a common occurrence.

If you frequently use the service and are fed up with it all, now’s your chance to help resolve the issues from the inside, as they’re currently hiring.

Northern is looking to recruit train drivers across the region, and you could be earning £53,000 before you know it.

You don’t need any previous train driving experience, just ‘100% commitment’, as you’ll be given full training during an ‘intense course’ – all you need is a willingness to learn both during working hours and at home.

Northern’s Driver Training Programme covers everything you need to know, with the initial 16 weeks of training involving both theory and practical learning at one of Northern’s training academies in Manchester or Leeds.

You’ll then hit the tracks under the guidance of an instructor/minder, with regular assessments to develop and maintain competence.

According to the Facebook job ad: “As a Train Driver it’s your responsibility to ensure our customers reach their destination in a safe manner and on time. Our drivers work hard to maintain high levels of route and train knowledge to ensure that safety is kept at the forefront of our operations.

“Although most of the time you will be working on your own in the driver’s cab, you will need to be able to communicate effectively with others in the wider team, including your Conductor, Dispatch and Control colleagues, and of course our customers.”

The salary is £23,326 while in training, £38,626 during your first year, £42,634 for year two, and a tasty £53,319 for year three.
