Nowab Miah sadly died after being run over while trying to stop his car from being stolen.

The local community have come together to raise thousands of pounds for the family of the restaurant owner.

Nowab, from Hyde in Tameside, was delivering a meal in Stockport on Friday January 8th when the tragedy occurred.

The 53-year-old father was run over while trying to stop his car from being taken at around 9pm, on Hazel Avenue in Romiley.

Police have launched a murder investigation into the incident.

Local residents have been left shock by the death of Mr Miah, who owned Marple Spice in Marple. He died in hospital on Sunday January 10th.

There has been a GoFundMe page created by local residents to raise money for both Mr Miah’s family and for charity.

The GoFundMe page, which has raised £6,089 from over 400 donators at the time of writing, reads: “As a community, we are all saddened to hear that a precious life has been lost.

“Donations will be used towards fulfilling the wishes of the gentleman, who especially wanted to help the Children of Bangladesh.”

David Speed is a witness to the incident as Mr Miah was delivering an Indian meal to his home, he told the MEN that he heard the doorbell ring before hearing the victim shout ‘no, no, no’.

Mr Miah then ran to his car to stop thieves by clinging to the passenger window. Mr Speed explains that five or six police cars arrived soon after.

Greater Manchester Police are looking for a silver Mercedes which they believe was stolen. A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in custody.

On Sunday, Mr Niah’s son, Shaf Nowab, posted on Facebook: “I am saddened to announce that my father, my mentor, my role model Haji Mohammed Hedayatul Islam known as Nowab Miah to his friends has sadly left this world surrounded by close family.

“Many of you will be aware of the recent incident that occurred in Romiley.

“My father is the person that it occurred with he was just doing his last delivery for our restaurant before he went home.

“I would like to thank everyone in the community for their prayers and regards and me and my family genuinely appreciate everything you have said.

“Me and my family ask that you keep us in your prayers and allow my family to come to terms with this loss.

“Thank you.”
