The son of murdered fusilier Lee Rigby was gifted a huge surprise fundraiser at the Pride of Britain Awards, boosting his amazing efforts.

Jack Rigby, 13, from Halifax won Young Fundraiser of the Year at the Pride of Britain Awards, which took place on Sunday October 8th and aired on TV last night (October 12th).

To mark the 10th anniversary of his father’s death, the determined youngster decided to take on the challenge of walking a marathon across the month of May this year.

The charity walk was to raise funds for Scotty’s little Soldiers – a charity that helps support bereaved children of a parent who served in the armed forces.

Scotty’s Little Soldiers has stood by the schoolboy’s side since he lost his dad Lee Rigby – who was killed by Islamic extremist terrorists outside Woolwich barracks on May 22nd, in 2013. Jack was just two years old at the time.

The charity has meant so much to him over the years that he has even named his dog ‘Scotty’ after it.

Jack was surprised when his fundraising efforts brought in over £50,000 from kind donations – way more than the £250 he originally set out to achieve.

But at the awards ceremony on Sunday, he was completely blown away after receiving his award on stage when he was also gifted further funds which brought his total to over £100,000.

Host Carol Vorderman took out a felt tip pen and scribbled the maths onto a clipboard to add up the grand total of donations from different people and organisations.

More than doubling Jack’s total, TSB, Pride of Britain, Daily Mail Readers and Dragon’s Den, all gave generous sums boosting his efforts to a total of £107,124.

The money will be donated to the King’s Lynn-based charity, which has supported many children like Jack over the years.

“Thank you so much,” said the completely flabbergasted teenager who later managed to add how he was left completely stunned by the ‘insane amount of money’ raised.

Viewers were left sobbing as his mum stood alongside the smiling boy on stage as well as rapper Aitch, and presenters Carol Vorderman, Ben Shepard and Ashley Banjo.

Flocking to social media to comment on the moment, one person said: “Jack Rigby your dad will be so proud! #PrideOfBritain #jackrigby.”

Another put: “Aww Jacks his dads double. What a lovely lad.” A third wrote: “Jack Rigby your dad will be so proud! #PrideOfBritain #jackrigby.” A fourth typed: “If you’re not crying are you even human? Jack Rigby.”

And, a fifth person added: “Jack Rigby will forever follow in his father’s footsteps – being a strong person. His dad will always be proud of him and continue to guide him down the right path. An angel in the sky, who left a huge legacy behind #PrideOfBritain.”
