Three cousins have teamed up to make and deliver authentic wood-fired pizzas from a back garden in Bolton.
I never thought I’d use the words Bolton and ‘authentic wood-fired pizzas’ in the same sentence, but these lads are truly pulling out all the stops.
Conor, Callum and Dino were all born and bred in Bolton but, during last year’s pandemic, they decided to get back in touch with their Italian heritage in the form of pizza making.
It also helps that their grandad – who moved to Bolton from Italy in the 1960s – actually opened up one of the city’s first ever Italian restaurants, Salvatore’s, which is now Casa Nostra in Westhoughton.
So you could say this pizza-making business is in their blood.
Anyway, because they had nothing else to do with their time – you know, when the whole country was locked down and that – the trio took advantage of their auntie’s garden and hand built their very own stone pizza oven.
Their grandad had a huge impact on their culinary influences, and their love of pizza combined with their new pizza oven encouraged them to begin an official takeaway business in January.
And thus, Cugini – translated to ‘cousin’ – was born.
Their toppings vary, ranging from pepperoni to more adventurous additions such as nduya. Though they have blended their two heritages with a special patatine pizza – loosely translated to ‘chips on pizza,’ and their ‘sausage and spuds’ pizza. It doesn’t get any more Bolton than that, does it?
Cugini opens every Saturday and has proven to be a hit with locals, with their pizzas selling out every single week. To keep things simple, the boys take their orders via direct message on Facebook and Instagram.

‘UK’s first’ drive-thru kebab shop could be coming to Greater Manchester
The kebab as we know it could be changed forever…
While the humble kebab is ranked highly among Brits far and wide, it is usually reserved for a drunken walk home at 2am on a Friday night.
Of course, this can tarnish the whole novelty of a kebab, especially when you fancy one on your hour’s lunch break or during a quiet night in front of the TV.
But now, the reputation of the kebab could soon be set to change with the arrival of one of the country’s first ever drive-thru kebab shops.
Plans have been submitted to transform a vacant two-storey building in Bolton’s town centre into a restaurant and drive-thru service dedicated to the classic late-night delicacy.
Documents show plans to convert the empty premises into the drive-thru restaurant under the German Doner Kebab name, with CGI images published by Bolton Council showing the intended design.
However, a Bolton highways department response to the application says more information will be needed for them to come to a verdict.
It states, as per the Manchester Evening News: “Owing to the premises location in relation to the highways around the town centre of Bolton, the applicant will need to submit some form of transport statement in order to justify the proposed change of use.
“The statement should provide a rough indication as to how accessibility to the premises will be controlled and how abuse of the one-way system on Gas Street will be prevented, as well as giving a rough indication of traffic impact from the proposed use.
“In its present form there is insufficient information available within the submission for the Highway Authority to fully comment.”
The plans are yet to be considered by planners in Bolton after a period of consultation with neighbours about the proposals.
Black Milk is opening up a new cafe inside a former cinema
The new venue will be serving the iconic Black Milk milkshakes and cakes as well as its new Italian gelato range
Manchester’s beloved dessert cafe Black Milk Cereal will soon be opening a brand new cafe inside the iconic Macclesfield Picturedrome.
The Picturedrome, which dates back to 1911 and had once served as a popular cinema, was transformed into a food and drink hall courtesy of the team behind Altrincham Market, Market House Alty and Mackie Mayor.
The food hall hosts nine independent kitchens and bars and, now, is set to welcome a sweeter addition in the form of Black Milk Cereal, who will be bringing its iconic milkshakes and cakes to the people of Macclesfield.
Black Milk shared the exciting news on their Instagram page, writing: “We are delighted to let you know that we will be opening at @picturedromemacc in Macclesfield in early February.
“We will be serving up our signature treats alongside new baked ones!”
Visitors to the new venue can expect some of their classic milkshakes and ‘freakshakes’, as well as a number of alcoholic flavours such as espresso martini and white Russian. There will be a selection of extravagant ice cream sundaes, cookies, pancakes and cheesecakes to choose from, too.
The bakery will also be trying its hand at something a little different in their new venue; Italian gelato in its signature flavours of hazelnut cream, pistachio, Biscoff and cookies & cream.
Speaking on the new opening, Black Milk’s business manager Andy Young said: “We are delighted to be moving into such an incredible venue. It will be the first of our adventures into Cheshire where we see a great opportunity to serve our treats to a whole new audience.
“We’d like to thank the team behind Picturedrome for asking us to join an incredible group of independent food and drink brands in Macclesfield.
“We look forward to meeting everyone within the next few weeks.”
Black Milk Cereal’s Manchester venue will remain closed until February while it undergoes refurbishments.
McDonald’s adds Chicken Big Mac to its menu for the first time in UK

McDonald’s is changing up the game with the launch of its first ever UK chicken Big Mac.
The burger – which is bound to divide opinions among British McDonald’s fans – will adopt the traditional Big Mac structure complete with the signature sauce. However, instead of two beef patties, the new version will come with two crispy chicken fillets.
The chicken version of the staple burger will be 50p more expensive than the original, which costs £3.59, though prices may vary between branches.
It also packs in more calories with 544kcal, compared to the traditional Big Mac which has 508kcal.
While the chicken Big Mac is already available in McDonald’s restaurants in Australia, this will be the first time it is sold here in the UK.
The burger will be on the menu in all 1,300 UK McDonald’s restaurants from February 2nd… Though you’ll have to be quick, as it is here on a trial period only and will be removed on March 15th.
That very same day will also see the return of the beloved double Big Mac, as well as the Mozzarella Dippers and Galaxy chocolate and salted caramel McFlurries.
However, this news will be bittersweet for many following the fast-food giant’s announcement regarding the removal of two popular breakfast items.
Posting across its social media platforms yesterday, McDonald’s announced that the bagels and breakfast wraps from the menu had been permanently discontinued.
Adopting a jokey and lighthearted tone, the announcement read: “Despite speculation and following a trial separation period, Breakfast Bagels & Breakfast Wraps will not be returning to the menu.
“We adore each other deeply but our love for the iconic McMuffin was simply too hard to ignore. We want our fans to know this is a mutual decision, to the extent that a bagel can make its own decision.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported our union. As for the rumours that there will be a new breakfast bae on the scene later this year… No comment.
“But it’s now time to say, ‘that’s a wrap’. And bagel. And that the McMuffin is 99p today.”
