An immersive exhibition dedicated to the work of famed artist Vincent Van Gogh is coming to Salford’s MediaCity this month.

Described by the Sunday Times as ‘glorious, stunning, but also very moving,’ Van Gogh Alive will allow guests to experience the artist in a multi-sensory art exhibition that gives a unique glimpse into the life and work of Van Gogh as you travel.

Over 3,000 images from his vast catalogue of work – including iconic works like Starry Night, Sunflowers and lesser-known paintings that were inspired by his love of Japanese woodprints – will explore and showcase different periods of the artists’ somewhat troubled life.

There will also be a number of immersive experiences for art fans to get stuck into – the life-sized recreation of one of his most famous pieces, ‘Van Gogh’s Bedroom’  will truly bring the painting to life, allowing visitors to sit on Van Gogh’s bed, his chair, use his mirror, and pose for a photo in one of the most recognisable bedrooms in history.

The ‘Immersive Sunflower Room’ will also allow guests to step into another iconic painting while also making for the perfect backdrop for those Instagram selfies. Budding artists will also be invited to try their hands at using Gogh’s techniques and learning his craft to create their very own masterpiece in the Art Activity Area.

Van Gogh Alive is the world’s most visited immersive art exhibition, having mesmerised a global audience of over 8 million across seventy cities. So, of course, the news of the exhibition coming to Salford’s Media City has been widely celebrated.

Paul Dennett, Salford City Mayor, said on the news: “It’s wonderful to be welcoming such an impactful art experience as Van Gogh Alive to Salford’s MediaCityUK.

“Communities have really missed experiencing arts and entertainment, with the hospitality and creative industries being amongst the hardest hit from the impacts of Covid-19, so it is brilliant to be seeing the creative industries launching new and innovative experiences for all to enjoy within a safe framework.”

Sounds a bit better than your old school trips to a dusty art gallery, doesn’t it?

The exhibition will be landing at Media City on October 22nd, and will run through until January 23rd, 2022.

It will also be supporting The Christie charity by using the experience as a platform to help raise funds to continue its work in cancer care, research, and education. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to make a donation to the charity when either purchasing tickets or while at the exhibition.

Tickets are now on sale, and are priced from £22.00 for adults and £15.00 for children, with concessions and school group discounts available.
