It’s been confirmed there will be a huge fireworks show to ring in the New Year in Manchester on December 31st, although it’ll be held in a different location. Manchester City Council confirmed the news, and by the sounds of things it’s going to be mint. The major public fireworks celebration is usually held at Albert Square, but will be moving this year due to refurbishment work.

After the success of the Christmas lights switch-on earlier this month, the New Year’s Eve event will take place in the same spot at the end of Deansgate, just next to Manchester Cathedral. The event promises to be a family friendly extravaganza, but if you fancy a pint you’re in for disappointment as there will be strictly no alcohol allowed.

This year it’s going to kick off around 10.30pm on Tuesday December 31st (obviously), with music and a big screen for the crowds.
After that the big countdown will begin, accompanied by a 10-minute fireworks display over the city.
And of course the best part is the whole thing is free, so get yourself down early to bag a good spot.
