The historic The Deansgate pub is set to reopen its doors this month after being forced to close during the Covid pandemic.

The pub was forced to close when the first nationwide lockdown came into force in March 2020, and was sadly unable to recover from the financial impact.

But in October 2021, brewing giant Greene King swooped into the rescue by acquiring the boozer and putting a substantial sum of money into its refurbishment.

And now, one year on, The Deansgate is set to finally welcome customers through its doors once more, with a fully refurbished interior and brand new rooftop terrace.

The extensive refurb has kept the pub’s original frontage, as well as many of its original features including stained glass windows and moulded ceilings.

The pub’s well known festoon lighting at the front has also been reinstalled.

The reopening will bring with it fifty new job opportunities, with recruitment currently taking place for front of house and kitchen staff.

Jonathon Evans, the pub’s general manager, said: “The Deansgate is well-known and well-loved by the people of Manchester and we are looking forward to opening its doors once more and welcoming customers old and new.

“The new-look pub will pay homage to some of the venue’s original features and we also have
some exciting new additions which we’re looking forward to unveiling.”

Greene King Pubs added: “We’re delighted to bring this iconic pub into our managed portfolio.

“It is well-known and well-loved by the people of Manchester and we look forward to welcoming customers back in the future.”

The Deansgate is found at the bottom of Deansgate in the shadow of the Beetham Tower, and was built in the 19th century, when it was known as The Crown Inn.

An exact opening date is yet to be announced.
