The multi-award-winning West End musical sensation Hamilton is to embark on its first ever UK tour, starting with Manchester.

It has been announced that the Broadway and West End production of Hamilton will be coming to Manchester’s Palace Theatre for 15 whole weeks later this year — having only ever opened at London’s Victoria Palace, where it has continued to be a huge success since 2017.

In one of the city’s biggest musical production announcements, the show will run from November 11th 2023 all the way through the festive season and into the new year, until February 24th 2024. It will then make its way up to Edinburgh on February 28th for the second stage of its epic tour of the UK.

Described as ‘America then, told by America now’, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton will wow audiences and send fans into a frenzy with its contemporary jazz, hip-hop and R&B blends as it tells the story of Alexander Hamilton and his journey as he became one of the founding fathers of the United States.

Known for its diversity of cast members in portraying the founding fathers, Hamilton is said to have created a revolutionary movement in theatre, having a profound impact on culture, education and politics — for which it has won notable awards including The Oliver, Tony, Grammy and Pulitzer.

Manchester audiences will now have the chance to be In The Room Where It Happens — one of the iconic songs of the musical — as they prepare to be dazzled.

In a statement released today, Cameron Mackintosh said: “Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton is indisputably the most brilliant, ground-breaking, contemporary musical of modern times. I feel extraordinarily fortunate that Lin and my friend Jeffrey Seller, the show’s original producer, have entrusted me with their wonderful musical in the UK and Ireland.

“The London production opened in 2017 at the Victoria Palace, a theatre I completely rebuilt to house Hamilton, where it continues to play and has proved to be as big a success as the Broadway original.

“So, I am thrilled that it is time to put together a second British national touring company to bring this great show to our leading cities.

“Opening first in Manchester, followed by Edinburgh – not far from where the real story of Alexander Hamilton began in Ayrshire, where his father was born in the 1700’s, before he moved to Nevis in the West Indies. Tomorrow we start casting for a brilliant new company. We look forward to welcoming audiences to ‘the room where it happens’”.

With book, music and lyrics written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, the musical tale of Hamiliton is based on Ron Chernow’s acclaimed biography.

Further touring venues are yet to be announced and casting for the UK tour is now currently underway.

General tickets go on sale for the Manchester and Edinburgh seasons on March 13th at 10am. There will also be a pre-sale for ATG Theatrecard holders from March 10th online at Manchester’s Palace Theatre. Prices have not yet been confirmed.
