Chester Zoo will be hosting a 10k run through its scenic grounds, with a one-mile run for under-12s, in September.
The 10k Run For Nature will raise funds to help save elephants from extinction, with runners making their way through the grounds before it opens to the public on Sunday, September 24th.
Children under 12 can also take part in a Kid’s Mile Zoom, with both races having flat and fast routes throughout the estate.
Runners can enjoy a scenic route taking them past fascinating sights such as the conservation Breeding Management Area where the giraffes’ food is grown – it’s a good job the route is flat while people take a look!
Runners will also gain free access to the zoo with discounted entrance for any spectators who wish to support those taking part.
This years’ run will raise money to help save the Asian elephants from extinction. It will be used to create a vaccine for EEHV, a deadly disease which affects elephants in both zoos and in the wild.
Chester Zoo will become the first zoo in the world to develop a vaccine for this disease and every penny raised will help it continue its vital work.
Runners can also go the extra mile with their fundraising efforts to earn some amazing bonuses.
There’s free t-shirts for anyone who raises over £60 and some really great prizes for top fundraisers, including a family membership, animal adoption, a meal at The Oakfield or even an Animal Experience!
All you have to do is set up a fundraising page when you enter, share the page with family and friends and then reach fundraising targets to unlock the rewards. Runners will receive a finishers medal for completing the Run For Nature 2023.
