Blackpool set for ultimate illuminations switch-on party with celebrity special guest

Blackpool is preparing for the ultimate illuminations party with a mystery celebrity special guest for the official switch on.

The event is free to attend and will see the annual switch on of its seasonal lights which will illuminate the Golden Mile and a huge party to keep visitors entertained, on Friday September 1st.

Starting at Central Pier, the event will see a huge parade of floats featuring the best loved Nickelodeon characters including Spongebob, Paw Patrol and Baby Shark as they travel along the stretch.

Also joining the parade will be over 100 dancers and performers as they start at Central Pier and head over to Tower Festival Headland for a free family friendly party.

To keep the atmosphere going there will be plenty of music and entertainment provided with an expected mystery celebrity guest to officially switch on the illuminations, which will last for four months.

After that, a special light show will take place at the iconic Blackpool Tower to dazzle and impress visitors.

A VisitBlackpool spokesperson said: “This is the first time, post-COVID, that we have been able to bring the full Switch-On event back outside – and we are determined to make it a party to remember.

“The Nickelodeon team are working on some amazing floats that will bring to life some of their best-loved children’s TV shows.

“The parade, combined with live music, fireworks and a dazzling light display, should make this the ultimate way to say goodbye to the summer holidays and hello to the start of our extended Illuminations season.

The event starts at 7pm and is free to attend with no tickets required. The main celebrations at the Tower festival Headland will take place after the parade from 8pm -9.30pm.

The mystery celebrity guest who will attend the official switch on will be announced in the coming weeks.

This year’s illuminations will run for an extended period once again, giving families the chance to visit Blackpool and marvel at the dazzling displays, until January 1st 2024.
