A tribute club night to the iconic Jilly’s Rockworld is coming to Manchester.

Some 13 years after its closure, the tribute night will relive some of the music played in the popular rock and indie haunt at the O2 Ritz on Saturday April 15th.

For over twenty years, the Oxford Road institution was the chosen sweatbox hangout of goths, moshers, rockers, metal heads, skaters and punks for weekly nights of headbanging chaos and eyeliner-wearing, fishnet-ridden mayhem.

The special night will revive some of the indie, rock and heavy metal floor fillers that will evoke nostalgia, as clubbers relive their youth for one night only.

Former Jilly’s DJs including Dave Kelly will be on the decks to recreate the magic of the long-lost club — which was known for selling Pot Noodles behind the bar to keep clubbers fuelled-up.

Sadly, Jilly’s wasn’t to be and it was the end of an era as it closed permanently in 2010, with owner John Bagnall blaming the indoor smoking ban and competition from new music venues.

On the O2 Ritz’s website, the event page says: “Get nostalgic with A tribute to Jilly’s Rockworld, remembering the iconic Manchester rock and heavy metal club night.”

The legendary night will begin at 11pm and curfew is 4am. Tickets are £7.30 each and are on sale now via Ticketmaster. (The event is for over-18s-only).
