The Full Monty is returning with original cast as a new Disney+ series

The original cast from The Full Monty are reprising their roles twenty-five years on for a new Disney+ series.

The 1997 comedy told the tale of a group of steelworkers from Sheffield who, after falling on hard times, formed their own male strip-tease act which promised a very revealing finale of ‘the Full Monty’.

The film was a roaring success and remains a cult classic to this very day.

So fans will be delighted to hear that Disney+ is bringing the story back to life with a new eight-part television series, complete with the original cast.

According to Disney, the new series will follow the characters as they ‘navigate healthcare, education and employment’ in a modern world, and will be scripted by the original screenwriter Simon Beaufoy.

Beaufoy said he is ‘chuffed to bits’ to be bringing The Full Monty men back together, saying the characters will each have a ‘chaotic entourage of children, grandchildren, pets and assorted hangers-ons’.

“We’re delighted to reunite the original cast for this brand-new series on Disney+ to catch up with these iconic characters and what they’ve been up to since we last saw them on stage in all their glory, and we can’t wait to introduce a host of exciting new faces and characters.”

The cast for the new series will include Lesley Sharp, Hugo Speer, Paul Barber, Steve Huison, Wim Snape and Tom Wilkinson.

They will also be joined by new cast members to take on the roles of the children and grandchildren of the returning film characters.

The series is being produced by Uberto Pasolini – who also worked on the film – and work has officially begun in Sheffield and Manchester.

An official release date is yet to be announced.
