Celebrity Gogglebox stars and Manchester legends Shaun Ryder and Bez received hundreds of Ofcom complaints regarding comments about drugs – but the stars have now snapped back.

The popular TV show received complaints regarding Shaun’s comments on drugs while watching the popular film Scarface a few weeks ago on the Channel 4 programme.

The pair have never attempted to hide their past and were quick to make a few comments about drugs on the show.

On the episode, Shaun said: “My chat up line used to be, ‘Do you want a line?”.

They then went onto joke about ounces and eighths when speaking about plans to reduce social distancing, with Shaun saying he didn’t know how far a metre was.

He quipped: “I know how many grams are in an ounce”, before Bez warned: “You should keep that knowledge to yourself, mate.”

The continued to discuss their own experiences with drugs while watching the classic film.

Since the pair received hundreds of complaints, Shaun told the Mirror: “We were being shown Scarface, a film where he’s talking about taking huge amounts of drugs. So I’ll talk about sailing, shall I?

“We did absolutely nothing wrong. Do we not have free speech in this country? Or is that just in America?”

The pair also got complaints regarding social distancing, as Bez visited Shaun’s house which was turned into a makeshift studio for the programme.

He said: “That was funny. People were saying ‘Shaun and Bez don’t live together’, there was this big outcry. I was like ‘Oh come on, What a bunch of nutters!’.

“All the social distancing rules were followed. The leads and cameras were fed through the window, the crew that set it up came in my house looking like a nuclear experiment.”

Gogglebox is on Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
