M3GAN, which just landed in UK cinemas, will see Megans around the UK flock to get tickets for this latest sci-fi horror, free of charge.
It features a life-like AI-doll named M3GAN, and was released in the UK on January 13th, with critics hailing it as as ‘bonkers but brilliant’. The new film has already been dubbed by fans as an ‘instant icon’, and is sure to give Annabelle a run for her money.
In the plot, creepy cyborg M3GAN is created by roboticist Gemma (Allison Williams) to keep her eight-year-old niece Cady (Violet McGraw) company after her parents are killed in a tragic accident and Gemma becomes her guardian.
But the robot-doll develops self-awareness and soon becomes obsessed with protecting Cady as things begin to take a murderous turn.
M3GAN, physically portrayed by Amie McDonald with Jenna Davis voicing the character, shows she can move in more sickly and unnatural ways than the girl in The Ring – so, prepare for an unsettling but hilarious ride.
The film has been rated a PG-13, after the creators changed some scenes to tone down the gore and violence.
Its Australian producer, James Wan, has already hinted at creating a M3GAN cinematic franchise. In an interview with Collider, he said: “What I will say to that is, whether it’s The Conjuring Universe, or Saw, or Malignant, or M3GAN here, we like to think of a bigger world.”
The Aquaman director added: “For me, it’s about creating the world, and knowing who the characters are, where the story could potentially go, and then building this bigger world, and then going into that and going, ‘Okay, I’m telling this particular story, but I know other stuff that’s going on.’
“So if we’re fortunate enough to have sequels, then we have an idea of where we want to go.”
