The visual effects company behind The Crown has released a video showing how they convinced everyone they filmed in New York, when it was actually in Manchester.

The Crown has followed in the footsteps of the likes of Spiderman and Peaky Blinders in turning Manchester, specifically the Northern Quarter, into a TV set.

It turns out the Northern Quarter is a heck of a lot cheaper than the real Big Apple and is pretty easily transformed.

The latest instalment of the popular Netflix show that recreates the trials and tribulations of the royal family turned to the NQ to double up as NYC during Charles and Diana’s tour.

You might remember the filming which took at Stevenson Square a few months ago. Well, with the help of CGI the city was completely transformed!

And now you can see exactly how it was done, below:

The VFX company has released a visual effects breakdown video where you can see just exactly what they did and the hard work that went into the seemingly insignificant scenes.

You have to really pay attention as some of them are only on screen for a couple of seconds – but were filmed in the city centre for days!
