Are you still struggling to fill the void left by the dramatic Line of Duty season finale earlier this year?
Well, I may have a little bit of good news for you: Amazon Prime has just released the first glimpse at their new thriller series, The Rig, starring the one and only Martin Compston – DCI Arnott, to the rest of us – and it looks seriously good.
So, what’s the show about?
Well, the series will follow a crew on the fictional Kinloch Bravo oil rig stationed off the Scottish coast on the dangerous waters of the North Sea. When the group of workers are due to return to the mainland, however, an eerie fog descends, and a mysterious force begins to take hold as the team find themselves cut off from all communication with the outside world.
Georgia Brown, the Director of European Amazon Originals for Prime Video, said of the series: “The Rig is a brilliant story, expertly told, in the most dramatic of settings. It asks searching questions about nature and the environment, about what it takes to survive and to be human, which feels very pertinent to the world we are living in now.
“We’re delighted to add this to our growing rota of UK made Amazon Original shows, all available to stream at no extra cost for Prime members around the world.”
And better yet, the series will be a Line of Duty reunion of sorts, with John Strickland directing all six episodes of the new drama. Strickland also directed the critically acclaimed BBC drama, The Bodyguard, too.
Other familiar faces will include Iain Glen, Emily Hampshire, Rochenda Sandall, Owen Teale, Richard Pepple, Mark Bonnar, Calvin Demba, Emun Elliott, Abraham Popoola, Stuart McQuarrie and Molly Vevers.
Filming wrapped last month in Edinburgh, Scotland, making it the first Amazon Prime original series to produced in that region.
The Rig is set to air on Amazon Prime in 2022.
