Stephen Graham has shared the first glimpse of Channel 4’s new thriller in which he stars alongside fellow Scouse actor Jodie Comer.

Help, written by Jack Thorne, is set in Graham and Comer’s hometown of Liverpool and follows the pair as they are forced to face the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic in its peak in March 2020.

In the one off two-hour long film, Comer stars as Sarah, a care home worker who forms a special bond with one of her residents Tony (played by Graham) who suffers from Young Onset Alzheimers.

An official synopsis reads: “A determined Sarah goes to extraordinary lengths to protect those in her care, whose conditions make their suffering and isolation all the more traumatic. But the staff’s unwavering commitment, compassion and heroic efforts can only do so much, and Sarah is pushed into a dark corner and desperately looks for a way out.”

Graham took to Twitter this morning to share a still image for the film, writing: “Coming soon @Channel4 Jodie @jackthorne & @marcmunden Thank you to each and every person who helped to make this.”

Previously speaking on his involvement in the film, Graham said in a statement, “Jack is one of the greatest and most truthful writers of our generation and in Help, he has crafted a profoundly important piece of social realism.

“I’ve wanted to work with Jodie for ages, and together we’re hugely passionate about shining a light on one of the biggest tragedies of our time and the people at the heart of it.”

Comer added that she was ‘thrilled to be working alongside Stephen’ in the hit, adding that it was a ‘real honour’ to bring the ‘relevant and emotive’ story to TV screens.

Comer previously expressed her gratitude to Graham during her acceptance speech after winning the prestigious Leading Actress award for her role in BBC drama Killing Eve.

She said: “I want to take this moment to thank Stephen Graham. If I didn’t owe you a pint before then, I do now. Thank you for the generosity you showed me all those years ago.”

An official release date for Help is yet to be released.
