Nigella Lawson has gone viral again, this time for how she pronounces ‘microwave’.

Cook, Eat Repeat is Nigella’s latest cooking show where she knocks up some of her favourite dishes in her usual sensual way.

However, in last night’s episode of the BBC Two mini-series, Nigella got people talking about the way she said ‘microwave’.

She was rustling up some brown butter colcannon – essentially mashed potatoes stuffed with veg – when Microwavegate happened.

She said: “I still need a bit of milk – full fat – which I’ve warmed in the meecro-wa-vay.”

Twitter, of course, has blown up, describing the ‘iconic’ way she pronounces the word.

One person joked: “Henceforth, ‘mecrowavay’ shall forever be in my vocabulary and microwave will cease to exist Queen @Nigella_Lawson has spoken.”

A second said: “I think that one legendary sentence shall forever remain up there as my fondest moment and memory of 2020- I don’t think I’ll be able to call it a microwave ever again”.

One tried to rationalise her pronunciation explaining: “[It’s] pronounced as an Italian or Spanish person would /mee-kro-wa-veh/, ie, the right way” – and Nigella has liked the tweet now, so there you go.

Brb, just off to warm up my tea in the meecro-wa-vey…
