Bad news for Corrie fans: The ITV soap has confirmed that they will be killing off veteran character Norris Cole next week.

Former newsagent Norris – played by Malcolm Hebden – is known and loved for his constant gossiping and his presence at The Kabin. He first appeared on the cobbles of Weatherfield all the way back in 1994 and, over the years, has become a Corrie icon in his own right.

However, over two decades on, it seems his time on the show has finally run its course.

Though this may not come as too much of a shock to regular viewers of the show – Norris hasn’t been seen on the soap since June last year and, in January this year, it was announced that Malcolm Hebden, eighty-one, had retired from the soap altogether following a heart attack in 2017.

A spokesperson for the soap said at the time that Norris would continue to be referenced in scripts, explaining: “Whilst Malcolm enjoys his retirement at home, Norris will reside at Stillwaters off screen and will continue to be referenced in scripts.”

However, the time has now come for Norris’ stint on the soap to come to an end.

Corrie confirmed that Norris’ death will be announced when Ken Barlow attempts to meet up with him. Ken will be shocked to hear from his wife Freda that Norris had collapsed and been taken to hospital with a suspected stroke.

And, when Ken, Rita and Mary Taylor will arrive at the hospital, they will be met by a heartbroken Freda who will breaks the news that Norris died half an hour ago.

Rest in peace, Norris Cole, a true Corrie icon.
