The Netflix film starring Rory Kinnear has been awarded feature film of the year at the National Film Awards.

The heartwarming Netflix biopic based on a true story — which follows Kinnear as minibus salesman and self-made millionaire Dave Fishwick as he fights to set up a community bank to help local residents in Burnley — really resonated with audiences.

Now it seems the industry insiders agree as Fishwick himself attended the National Film Awards, held on Monday night (July 3rd) at Porchester Hall in London, to receive the prestigious award.

He said: “It’s an honour to win such a prestigious award, I would like to give a huge thank you to The National Film Awards.

“All the actors and actresses in the Bank of Dave movie have all been a joy to work with and Netflix have been amazing. Me and all the team are really looking forward to working on the sequel.

After the huge success of the first film Netflix has now commissioned a sequel.

Also in attendance on the night were British A-listers including Hugh Grant, Kate Beckinsale, Olivia Colman and Taron Egerton — who all took home awards.

The National Film Awards said: “The evening concluded with the highly anticipated Best Feature Film award, which went to ‘Bank of Dave.’

“This remarkable film captivated audiences with its compelling storyline, brilliant performances, and exceptional direction.

“The National Film Awards 2023 was an unforgettable celebration of the film industry, honouring outstanding achievements and highlighting the immense talent within the field.”
