Yorkshire Tea will no longer be sold in Russia after the brand’s owner confirmed it had suspended all trade over its invasion of Ukraine.

Taylors of Harrogate, which owns Yorkshire Tea, said Russia had been an export market for some of its teas for several years, but their company policy states to not trade with people or states sanctioned by the UK government.

A spokesperson said: “We’ve been deeply shocked and saddened by the invasion and our thoughts are with all those impacted.

“As a result of the invasion and the subsequent sanctions, we’ve suspended trade.”

The spokesperson outlined that Taylors of Harrogate hold an ‘ethical trade and human rights policy’ which guides how it works with suppliers, customers and distributors.

They added: “It includes the provision that we will not trade with individuals, entities, regions or countries where UK sanctions have been applied.”

This comes as a number of British brands and companies come under increasing pressure to cut all ties with Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine.

Just last week, supermarket giant Morrisons announced that it had withdrawn all Russian-branded vodka from its shelves in response to the situation over in Ukraine.

A spokesperson said: “We have taken action on our vodka lines including de-listing Russian Standard. The product is no longer available on our website and no further stock will be bought.”

In a similar move, Co Op has withdrew Russian-made vodka, with a spokesperson explaining: “In response to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces and as a sign of solidarity with the people of Ukraine, we’ve taken the decision to remove from sale Russian-made vodka.”
