But now, one woman has come forward with an incredibly simple hack that could put everyone’s fly-infested bin day woes to bed.
The TikTok user, who posts under the name @sisterpledgecleans, shared the hack that has become an ‘unconscious standard practice’ in her day to day life.
In the viral video, the cleaning enthusiast can be seen washing out two small wheelie bins. Once they’ve been thoroughly washed out, she adds a good portion of table salt to the bottom, all while explaining: “Here’s a great hack for stopping flies in your bins.
“Sprinkle a generous amount of table salt in the bottom of clean bins. The salt soaks up any leaked fluid and flies and maggots die when they feed on it.” Simple!
The video was quick to go viral, with it now having over 4.4 million views. Countless TikTok users expressed their gratitude for the nifty trick, with one person writing: “My bins are getting emptied tomorrow. I’m so trying this out!”
Another replied: “I literally just cleaned my bins yesterday, why did I not see this first?!”
