A letter written by Queen Elizabeth is hidden within a vault in Australia, and it cannot be opened for another sixty-three years.

In the wake of Her Majesty’s passing, curiosity surrounding the mysterious letter has grown, with many wondering what kind of message it contains.

According to reports, not even the Queen’s personal staff know what she wrote.

But alas, the contents of the letter, which was addressed to the people of Sydney by the Queen during a state visit in 1986, will not be revealed until the year 2085.

The hand-written note currently sits within a vault in the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney’s CBD, with only Her Majesty’s instructions visible in a glass frame.

The notice is addressed to the Right and Honourable Lord Mayor of Sydney, and reads: “Greetings. On a suitable day to be selected by you in the year 2085 A.D. would you please open this envelope and convey to the citizens of SYDNEY my message to them.”

The British monarchy remains as the head of state in Australia, with King Charles III represented by Dave Hurley, the country’s Governor-General.

Queen Elizabeth faced abolishment as head of state in 1999 when the country voted in a referendum to decide whether to leave the Commonwealth and become a republic.

However, the Australian public voted to remain within the Commonwealth, with 54% of the public declaring they would like the Queen to remain as the head of state.

Her Majesty passed away on Thursday September 8th after being placed under medical supervision at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, bringing an end to her historic seventy-year reign on the throne.

King Charles underwent his accession ceremony at St James’ Place over the weekend, where he made his declaration and oath as monarch, pledging to dedicate ‘what remains of my life’ to his new role.

He also confirmed that the Queen’s state funeral will mark a bank holiday for workers in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
