Tesco has once again raised the cost of its popular lunch time meal deal as costs continue to soar.
Back in February, the supermarket announced it would be increasing the price of its popular sandwich, snack and drink deal to £3.50, with Clubcard holders still being able to get it for its staple price of £3.
However, Tesco has now announced its second price hike of the year, revealing that from Monday (October 24th), the meal deal will cost £3.90, an increase of 40p.
And even Clubcard holders aren’t safe from the price increase this time, with the Clubcard price also increasing by 40p from £3 to £3.40.
Tesco said its meal deal still represents ‘great value’.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the supermarket said: “Clubcard members will pay just £3.40 for a main, snack and drink, making our meal deal an ideal way to grab a great value lunch on-the-go.
“And with savings of up to £3 on millions of possible combinations across our stores, including the recent addition of Costa hot drinks, and our ever-popular Christmas sandwiches which join the meal deal for the festive period, we’ve got something for every taste.”
Tesco went on to urge customers to sign up for a Clubcard, which is free and offers a wide range of discounts and deals on a variety of products across its stores.
Fans of the famous meal deal have quite rightly been left dismayed by the news, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment.
One person wrote: “The Tesco meal deal has gone up to £3.40. Time to declare the real economic crisis”, while another commented: “The price of a tesco meal deal is going up to £3.40 for clubcard users. Stop the world am getting off”.
A third noted: “I’m finding it very hard to believe Tesco needs to up the meal deal price. As if they will be at a loss if they don’t. I just don’t believe it”.
This comes as the UK’s inflation rates exceeded 10%, reaching a forty-year high and forcing everyday items like food and fuel to skyrocket in price.
