A Southern region in Italy is calling out for people to relocate there and is offering up to £26,000.
Autumn is turning to winter with the evenings getting gradually darker. And as temperatures plummet you might just be dreaming of your summer holidays and toying with the idea of a life abroad.
Instead of de-icing your car and heading to work in the dark, as well as coming home in the dark, you could be living it up in the Mediterranean sunshine.
You may be envious of the celebrities and influencers enjoying a glass of vino while tucking into a delightful bowl of seafood pasta while you’re navigating grey streets in side-ways rain.
Well, how would you feel about moving to Italy and being paid to live there? Just let that soak in like Marsala wine in a Tiramisu for a moment.
Even without the money, the weather and food alone would be enough to tempt most into relocating to Italy.
But, there is a catch. You have to be under 40 to be eligible for the Active Residency Income Scheme.
The scheme is looking for people under 40 who are willing to take a leap of faith and relocate to Calabria – and it’s offering up to £26,000.
This region sits right at the foot of the boot-shaped country on the part known as Italy’s ‘toe’.
It’s plentiful of picture-perfect beaches and magnificent mountains that rest in the background. It’s a bit like the Amalfi Coast but more quiet and peaceful.
Another thing; you will need to hold up your end of the deal also.
This means you’ll have to pack up and head out there within 90 days, so it might be best to get selling your belongings now if you’re seriously considering it.
You will also have to be business-minded as officials are looking for people to help breathe new life into the area and boost its local economy.
You can either start your own business which is beneficial to its residents and the area, or take up one of the jobs on offer, including in shops, hotels and restaurants.
You may either receive the money in monthly instalments of £1,000 or take it as one lump sum and use it to help you set up a new business.
Those applicants that are successful will move to villages of up to 2,000 residents – tempted to trade the hustle and bustle of the city for the quiet life?
Calabria councillor, Gianluca Gallo, said: “We want to make demand for jobs meet supply, that’s why we’ve asked villages to tell us what type of professionals they’re missing to attract specific workers.
“We’ve had a huge interest from villages and hopefully, if this first scheme works, more are likely to follow in coming years.”
The active residency income scheme has a total of around £620,000 in the pot for successful candidates.
