If you’re not familiar with Rate My Plate, it’s a Facebook page where people submit their meals to face the scrutiny of an online community.

A lot of the time a dish will end up being absolutely destroyed, sometimes for very slight culinary violations, like undercooking your bacon – although personally, it’s got to be crispy every time.

One person who managed to spark a massive debate with what is technically a very simple dish, is Kristi D, who submitted a plate of pasta and gravy.

Kristi’s ‘Classic Pasta and Gravy’ has divided opinion, although it’s fair to say the weight of public opinion is on the side of this dish being an abomination.

One disgusted person said: “I don’t know who told you pasta and gravy is a meal, but you should file a complaint”, while another added: “Nothing classic about pasta and gravy !!! Wtf”, with a load of throwing up emojis on the end to hammer home the point.

Leanne summed up how most people think quite nicely: “Whit the actual fuck! A like gravy and a like pasta but they do not belong on the same plate Kristi go have a word with yourself! [sic]”

However, some people leapt to her defence, with one person saying: “Honestly love pasta with gravy had it a few times this week”, while another said: “Yes! I love pasta and gravy. When I tell others about this they turn their nose up….until they try it”.

Some people pointed out that the German and Austrian dish spätzle is pretty much pasta with gravy, and is delicious: “I mean spatzle is a kind of pasta and it can be a side dish with gravy on it.”

Another added: “Spatzle (type of noodle; homemade of course) with rouladen and gravy is very very good. Always needs a good helping of braised red cabbage on the side”, before continuing: “As for the above fusilli and gravy; that looks totally disgusting!”

So it looks like it’s a no from most people. What do you think? Pasta and gravy, yay or nay?
