A serial ‘middle lane hogger’ has had her car seized by police after being caught driving in, you guessed it, the middle lane of the M60.

Greater Manchester Police traffic officers spotted the red Toyota Yaris ignoring matrix board signs instructing drivers to use the left lane.

Upon being pulled over, officers quickly discovered that the woman hadn’t insured her car, resulting in the vehicle being seized.

Taking to Twitter, GMP Traffic detailed the woman’s reaction to her punishment and how she merely insisted that she ‘always drives in the middle lane.’

They wrote: #ME14 saw this Yaris hogging the middle lane of the M60. Ignored the matrix board to ‘use left lane’ followed by Instruction to ‘follow me’ off the motorway.

“Driver then stopped live lane! When stopped checks found the driver to have no insurance! Seized & reported.”

In a follow up tweet, the force continued: “Driver stated she had no idea what ‘follow me’ meant or who it could be for as her explanation for stopping in the live lane! She also stated she always drives in the middle lane!! Lane hogging causes frustration to other road users and prevents traffic from flowing.. #dayincourtawaits.”

Motorway advice supplied by GMP Traffic states that drivers should always use the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. It reads: “If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past.”
