Salford is the most haunted place in the UK, new research finds

Salford is officially the most haunted place in the UK, according to some new research this Halloween.

Analysis from BonusFinder explored a range of factors, including reported ghost sightings, haunted locations, the number of cemeteries, and the number of paranormal investigators.

As well as that, the number of abandoned properties and houses over 100 years old were also taken into account – in relation per 10,000 people.

Salford came in at number one with a score of 8.5 out of 10, partly thanks to the many cemeteries, memorials and abandoned properties in the area.

It’s also home to the well-known haunted hotspot of Ordsall Hall, which is reportedly home of the ‘White Lady’ – the spirit of Margaret Radclyffe, the daughter of the previous owner.

According to stories she fell in love with a man her family disapproved of, leading to her tragic death, and her ghost can now be spotted roaming the house dressed in white.

And in even more good news for local ghost hunters, the second most haunted place is also in Greater Manchester – Bolton.

Bolton claimed an impressive score of 8.4, thanks in part to one of the most renowned haunted locations in the area, Smithills Hall.

Over the years there have been a substantial number of paranormal reports at the hall from visitors and staff, including sightings and unexplained phenomena like the ghost of Lady Green.

There’s also Turton Tower, the 600-year-old manor house on the edge of town which is strongly rumoured to be haunted – including reports of strange sounds, footsteps and apparitions in the older parts of the building.
