To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee appropriately, pubs across England and Wales will be permitted to extend their opening hours.

Under new government plans, opening hours will be extended by two hours to 01:00 BST over the extended bank holiday weekend between June 2nd and 4th.

However, the temporary extension to licensing regulations will not apply to supermarkets or off-licences.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said the extended hours will allow people to ‘raise a glass to toast Her Majesty’s incredible service’.

Patel said: “The Platinum Jubilee is a truly historic national occasion, which will see families, friends and communities across the country come together to celebrate this unprecedented landmark in a remarkable reign.

“Over the extended bank holiday weekend, we will be able to raise a glass to toast Her Majesty’s incredible service to our country, while also providing a boost to the hospitality industry after a challenging couple of years.”

And late nights down the local boozer aren’t the only things lined up to mark the Queen’s seventieth year on the throne; there will be four days worth of celebrations this year, which will include a Platinum Pudding Competition judged by baking royalty Dame Mary Berry.

Between the dates of May 12th-15th, there will then be a ‘spectacular’ equestrian display A Gallop Through History will showcase horses from across the globe in a ‘personal tribute to our monarchy’.

And on June 5th, some of the nation’s most treasured performers and stars will take to the stage for the People’s Pageant carnival finale, which is billed to involve more than 10,000 people during the June bank holiday.

The £15 million pageant is being ‘made by the people for the people’ and is a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ experience, organisers said.

Manchester City Council are also urging residents to throw their very own street parties to mark the occasion, with them waiving its usual fee for road closure requests and offering some funding ‘where available’ to certain communities.

Joanne Roney OBE, Chief Executive of Manchester City Council, said on the upcoming celebrations: “It’s a historic milestone to reach, and the extended bank holiday weekend will be a perfect time to celebrate a lifetime of service.

“We know Mancunians will want to celebrate, so this is your chance to get family, friends, neighbours together for a once in a lifetime street party.”
