Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s adorable reactions to Queen’s Paddington Bear sketch
The young royals were delighted to see their great-grandmother on the screen with Paddington
Prince George and Princess Charlotte were in for a surprise over the weekend when their great-grandmother enjoyed an impromptu lunch with Paddington Bear.
During the star-studded Party at the Palace event at Buckingham Palace on Saturday, the Queen sat down for a two-minute sketch with the beloved character in honour of her Platinum Jubilee.
In the short film, Paddington showed Her Majesty a marmalade sandwich he had hidden underneath his hat, prompting the Queen to open her own handbag and quip: “I keep mine in here, for later.”
After accidentally drinking all of the tea and covering a butler in cream, Paddington congratulated the Queen on her seventy years on the throne, saying: “Happy Jubilee Ma’am. And thank you. For everything.”
The Queen then replied: “That’s very kind.”
Her Majesty’s role in the sketch was kept tightly under wraps, so those in attendance were understandably very surprised to see the unlikely lunch take place.

And the same applies for her great-grandchildren, who couldn’t hide their excitement and amusement as they watched on from the royal box.
Photos from the event show Prince George, eight, and Princess Charlotte, seven, gasping as their great-grandmother appeared on the screen, and laughing together at her secret stash of marmalade sandwiches.
People on social media were very touched by the Cambridge children’s reactions, with one person commenting: “It’s so wonderful that the children are old enough to be present and enjoy their great grandmother’s celebration.”
Another joked: “By the look on Charlotte’s face she’s gonna [sic] be checking that bag next time…”.
Over 22,000 fans were in attendance at the concert at Buckingham Palace on Saturday night, where there were a number of appearances from music icons, film stars and sport figures.
There were also performances from Sir Elton John, Sir Rod Stewart, George Ezra, Craig David, Alicia Keys, Mimi Webb and Eurovision’s Sam Ryder.
