Peter Kay treated a woman with terminal cancer to dinner at an acclaimed Lancashire restaurant before she resumed radiotherapy.
Laura Nuttall, twenty-two, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer in October 2018, where she was given just weeks to live.
Yet despite defying all odds and recently undergoing her fourth major surgery, Laura’s mum Nicola announced her tumour had sadly grown back last week.
So in the wake of the bleak diagnosis, the Bolton-born comedian surprised Laura and Nicola to dinner at the White Swan in Fence near Burnley.
Taking to Twitter, Nicola wrote: “Today’s joy has been a very special treat, the most wonderful lunch at @whiteswan_fence with #PeterKay for company.
“Laughter won’t cure #Glioblastoma but it’s definitely a blimmin’ [sic] good distraction for a couple of hours.”
And replying to someone asking what the comedian is like in real life, Nicola added: “The nicest, most thoughtful and naturally hilarious person. Everything you’d hope he’d be. We’re lucky to have him as a friend”.
Last year, Kay hosted a number of charity gigs in order to raise money for Laura’s treatment.
Speaking previously about the kind gesture, Laura explained that her family had been ‘slogging away’ at fundraising for her treatment – immunisation in Germany – that was ‘phenomenally expensive.’
She added: “So having this from Peter just takes the pressure off so much.”
The family have remained in touch with Kay, with Nicola saying they had been out to the pub with him twice where, instead of talking about Laura’s illness and treatment, they ‘laugh our heads off.’
She said: “He’s just the best company.”
