We can all agree that the heroes working for our NHS deserve the world and more, and that’s why stories about the public showing them their appreciation need as much coverage as possible. One such story has been shared by David Tillyer, a paramedic at the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, who had just finished a night shift and popped over to Lidl to do some shopping. When he arrived there was a large queue outside, but one by one everyone in it let him go ahead of them, followed by a huge round of applause and messages of thanks. Then once he’d finished his shopping, a woman he’d been talking to insisted she paid for it all, swiping her card to cover the charges.

David took to social media to share the amazing story, where it received a massive response, racking up hundreds of thousands of likes and shares.
He wrote on Facebook: “I am humbled and a little bit emotional. I finished my night shift this morning and joined the line of shoppers waiting to enter Lidl in Cromer. One by one they all let me ahead of them followed by a round of applause and thank yous. “Once I’d done my round of shopping inside, a lady I’d been chatting to in the queue ran up and swiped her card on the reader to pay for my shopping. I tried to say ‘that’s kind but you mustn’t’ but she said with a smile ‘not much you can do to stop me now’. “Thank you to the lady that did that and thank you to all the shoppers that made me feel special after a tough run of shifts.”
David later edited his post, writing: “I am amazed at the response this post has received. For anyone wanting to show their thanks to everyone on the front line, I implore you to donate to NARS.
“Without your help they simply can’t keep doing what they do. Please go to https://givi.ng/261666 for more information.” What a brilliant story! You can donate here, and if you’ve got some money to spare please do.
