If you’re the proud owner of an Android phone, look away now.
A recent study investigating turn-offs of the year (important work, I know), has revealed that owning one of these devices is officially the biggest turn-off in the UK.
The study, carried out by dating app POM, delved into what gives the 3,000 Brits the ‘ick’, their term for a quality or trait that people can be turned off by.
And, while the Apple vs Android debate has raged on for years, the results came out in favour of Apple, with the ownership of an Android phone cropping up consistently across all demographics surveyed.

Other top ‘icks’ include not having social media, smoking, commenting on celebrity social media posts, using pet names, wearing muscle fit shirts and people talking about themselves in the third person.
The study also found that 74% of men regard ‘dirty or unpainted nails’ at the top of their turn-off list, while 78% of women think refusing to learn how to drive is one of the more unattractive qualities.
Though it was apparent that the age of these singletons played a role with the answers, with 56% of singletons over the age of thirty regarding having a TikTok account is awful. Contrastingly, 24% of those surveyed under the age of twenty-one think not having social media is the ultimate red flag.
And, in a more topical icks, wearing a face mask incorrectly (with your nose exposed) somehow made it into the top ten turn-offs. Fair enough, if you ask me.

Anyway, here’s the top ten turn-offs:
Owning an Android phone
Refusing to learn to drive
Commenting on famous people’s social media posts
Speaking in slang
When they are the only one to laugh at their own jokes
Wearing gym clothes to a date
Dirty or unpainted nails
Getting food stuck in their teeth
Singing the wrong lyrics to songs
Wearing a face mask under their nose
Moral of the story? Get out and buy an iPhone sharpish… And wear your face mask correctly.
