A comedy club in Blackpool has shared the moment a customer demanded a refund, citing the Ukraine and Russia conflict as their reason for not being able to safely attend a gig.

Comedy Station Comedy Club shared a series of emails received by the couple, who had planned to travel from their home in Hull to attend one of their gigs.

In the lengthy email, the couple said they had called and spoken to ‘someone called Rob’ to request a refund, only to be told this was not possible and that they could instead choose to come another night instead.

They wrote: “Due to events in Russia and Ukraine it is not safe for us to travel from Hull as we are both retired. Due to this it’s safer that we stay nearer to home until it is sorted.

“I told Rob that I wanted a refund and he said he would move the tickets to another date but I DO NOT want that because I don’t know how long this will go on for. NO ONE KNOWS!!!!!!!!

“He showed me so called terms and conditions – which I did not read when I booked the tickets a few weeks ago like nobody does and nowhere in them does it say anything about no refunds FOR A WAR.

“As it is not in your so called terms and conditions I am legally allowed a FULL refund and I will take this to trading standards if not refunded in 24 hours. I MEAN IT.”

Staff at the comedy club replied to the couple, who have allegedly messaged them a further seventeen times and threatened legal action, saying: “Despite offering multiple resolutions to your problem, you persisted in calling [our staff member] a liar, swearing at him and asking if he ‘masturbates to a poster of Putin’, at which point he, quite rightly, advised you that he was not going to continue the conversation and gave you our email address.

“You are not entitled to a refund, simply because you live nearer to Russia than [sic] we do.”

The comedy club then shared part of the email exchange onto Twitter, writing: “We genuinely didn’t think we’d need to say this, but Russia moving troops into Ukraine does not entitle you to a refund, no matter how abusive you are to our Box Office staff.

“As far as we’re aware, Russia hasn’t invaded Hull yet. #entitledmuch”.

Comedy Station Comedy Club’s refund policy is that unless a show is cancelled or rescheduled, tickets are non-refundable. You can visit its website here.
