A hair salon in the North West has got rid of gender-specific pricing in a bid to become more inclusive. Nigel Bailey Hair in Northwich will instead charge people based on the length of their hair when it reopens.
This will see a ‘more fair and transparent pricing structure’ being offered to all clients.

Salon owner Nigel Bailey told the Northwich Guardian: “Generally, unisex salons traditionally charge their gents less than their females – where is the gender equality with that?
“We want to take away the gender stereotypes when people are booking appointments because, at the end of the day, it’s all hair and we feel that hair has no gender.
“What we’ve decided to do is break our price list down into three different categories – short, medium and long.”
This change will mean that both men and women who have the same length of hair will be charged the same price for a haircut.
Nigel added: “Taking away these gender stereotypes has allowed us to promote equality.
“Throughout lockdown I’ve really been able to sit down and think about ways to make the salon more inclusive.
“As a salon and feel this is a big step.
“For example, a person who identifies as non-binary will be able to book for a haircut without assigning a gender to themselves.” Nigel has owned the business for four-and-a-half years, and plans to introduce the new pricing structure once lockdown restrictions ease and the salon can reopen.
