Who’d have thought we’d live in a world where Kickers are banned?

A mum has sparked an online debate after she questioned her son’s schools ‘ridiculous’ Kickers shoes ban.

The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, took to Mumsnet to vent about the new rule, which will apparently put a brand new pair of Kickers to waste. She wrote: “I bought him [her son] a pair of Kickers as I wanted comfy shoes which will last him most of the year.

“I know from previous experience that the ‘businessman’ style shoes don’t last if they’re playing footie at break! Most of the DCs at their school wore Kickers and so did they once I caught on.”

After discovering the new uniform policy from the information given to new starters in Year 7, however, the mum says it’s now too late to return the £68 shoes she recently bought and is wondering whether to send him in them anyway.

She explained: “School has banned Kickers shoes! I have bought them for DS. AIBU [am I being unreasonable] to to let him wear them and start a fight with them if they try to sanction him?”

The peeved mum was inundated with responses, with many encouraging her to send her son into school with the shoes anyway. One person wrote: “I would send him in them and if they complain ask them to show where on their uniform policy it says they are banned.”

Another noted: “I’d send him in them anyway. They can’t ban them after the start of the school year – that’s really unfair. Worst case, get a marker pen on the labels.”

However, other concerned parents pointed out that her son will be the one suffering the consequences. One wrote: “Irrespective of whether the school is right or wrong with their policy, the problem is that the information WAS there, on the new joiners page. It’s not the school’s fault you chose not to read it properly.”

Another pleaded: “Please don’t just send your child in wearing them, he’s the one that will suffer the consequences of your inattention, and that’s not fair. Please don’t start your son’s high school journey being one of THOSE parents who think the rules don’t apply to them or look for excuses because they made a mistake!”

In the end, it can be assumed that the woman decided to stuff the rules and send her son in wearing Kickers anyway, with her writing: “Why should I have to deface a brand new pair shoes just because of a stupid rule they’ve just brought in. Kids have been wearing Kickers to school for years! Why do we have to put up with this c**p?”
