I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I’m afraid that the late August heatwave we were all gearing up for is sadly cancelled.

Forecasters had predicted that temperatures would soar ‘above average’ just in time for the Bank Holiday weekend, with Brits here in Manchester and across the country hoping for similar scenes to those at the end of the July, when temperatures hit highs of 30C in some areas.

However, the Met Office has dashed everyone’s hopes by revealing that the warmer weather won’t be arriving for quite some time.

Forecaster Steven Keates confirmed that the ‘bland’ and bleak weather is set to continue for the rest of the month, saying: “This summer is not going to be remembered for warmth. It’s been very bland.

“We’ve had flooding, some parts of the country have seen double their average rainfall and temperatures have been unremarkable.

“It’s been wishy-washy to say the least – and that’s how it’s going to end.”

However, there is one glimmer of hope; September could potentially see some warmer-than-usual temperatures. Steven added: “A heatwave is not on the cards – but let’s not give up hope altogether.

“Some September’s have come up trumps over recent years.”

Today is set to be cloudy in most areas – with patchy drizzle to start off the summer morning in true Manchester style.
