Matt Hancock’s tell-all interview about his affair during the 2020 lockdowns has been slammed as ‘nauseating drivel’.

The former Health Secretary appeared on Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast this week to discuss his public resignation, which came in the wake of leaked CCTV footage showing him kissing aide Gina Coladangelo in breach of the social distancing guidelines he had enforced.

During the podcast, Hancock defended the kiss, saying he only broke the rules because he had ‘fallen in love’.

Bartlett broached the topic by stating: “In September 2020 there was guidance given to stop us engaging in and having casual sex with people outside our household.”

At this, Hancock interrupted and asked: “Do you think you could ask that question in a little bit more respectful way?” before asking him to ‘start the section again’.

He said: “I don’t mind all of it except that opening bit about casual sex. I haven’t had casual sex with anybody, I fell in love with somebody.

“Let’s start this bit again and I’ll relax.”

He added that falling in love with Coladangelo, who he has known since his time as a student at the University of Oxford, was ‘something that was completely outside of my control’.

However, Hancock’s attempt at salvaging the little reputation he had left failed miserably, with people slamming his constant references to falling in love as ‘nauseating’ and ‘painful’.

One person questioned: “Why would ANYONE do this horrible interview? @MattHancock has a very sad wife and children. Don’t they count at all? #vile”.

Another wrote: “If you want to feel a bone deep cringe, seek out Matt Hancock’s ‘I fell in love’ interview”.

A third wrote: “Oh Jesus god. I’ve just seen polo-necked Matt Hancock explaining that he broke the social distancing rules because he ‘fell in love’. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a nauseatingly self-indulgent clip. It could be worse than his snog video.”

Though some people found offence with his choice of turtle neck jumper, with one person noting: “The most annoying thing about this Matt Hancock podcast interview is that he’s ruined wearing a turtleneck for the rest of us. F***ing Milk Tray looking p***k. That’s my entire wardrobe gone.”
