A Manchester based estate agents has confirmed that they have launched an investigation after a series of racist tweets were made by an alleged member of staff.

Savills, based on Booth Street in the city centre, issued a statement after posts were made last night just after 11pm following England’s crippling defeat to Italy in the Euros 2020 final.

The vile tweets, which referred to three England players as the ‘N’ word, and another to domestic violence in the wake of their loss, were allegedly made by a senior member of staff.

Social media users were quick to alert Savills to the man’s tweets, with many sharing screenshots of his LinkedIn account which stated that he works as their commercial buildings manager.

The estate agents quickly responded, saying in a statement: “Savills is committed to eliminating discrimination and encouraging diversity amongst our workforce. A full investigation will be carried out in regards to this unacceptable incident.”

In a second statement later this morning, the company reiterated: “Savills abhors and has zero tolerance to any form of racism and racial discrimination and is appalled by the racist comments in these tweets. Savills is immediately investigating and will take appropriate action.”

But sadly, this isn’t the only instance of racism following the defeat – Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka have been inundated with abuse after they missed their penalties during last night’s shoot out.

The FA were forced to speak out and condemn the abuse, saying they will do ‘all we can to support the players affected while urging the toughest punishments possible for anyone responsible.’

The Metropolitan Police also condemned the ‘unacceptable’ abuse, adding it will be investigating the ‘offensive and racist’ social media posts.

The force said in a statement on Twitter: “We are aware of a number of offensive and racist social media comments being directed towards footballers following the #Euro2020 final.

“This abuse is totally unacceptable, it will not be tolerated and it will be investigated.”

Italy were crowned European champions last night after defeating England in the penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw and extra time.
