One joker has ‘saved’ Christmas with his sneaky plan to still have his family around on December 25th legally.

Fenn Settle, 28, had the idea while trying to book a meeting at a restaurant for a group of people over six.

With the rule of six, the restaurant refused, explaining that you can’t book for a table over six. But when Fenn said it was for a ‘work meeting’ the woman at the restaurant said it was ‘absolutely fine’.

So that got Fenn thinking could this loophole be used for Christmas?

As a joke Fenn set up his limited company for just £6 in a few minutes, with just a couple of simple clicks.

He told Yorkshire Live: “I thought to myself I might as well hire all of my family and friends on zero hour contracts and get them all round the house for a Christmas – I mean, for an unpaid works event.

“Police will apparently barge into our homes during Christmas but office workers can all hang out – it’s just ridiculous.”

He added: “A few friends have told me that I have saved Christmas. Which is both hilarious and sad.”

While the tongue-in-cheek idea has gone viral online, Fenn will actually be spending Christmas with just his partner as his parents live in France.

He said: “I was really close to my grandfather, we spent Christmas together last year, and I wasn’t able to spend his last eight weeks with him.

“It was truly heartbreaking and I’m sure so many families across the UK will have similar stories.

“If I could see them I would but I do take this pandemic seriously, as we all should. If the guidance changes we’ll see but for now it’ll be just me and my partner.”

England’s lockdown is set to end on December 2nd, with different regions returning to the relevant tier depending on cases.
