A study found that letting your dog sleep in bed with you can actually help you have a better night’s sleep.

If you have a four-legged friend and have found yourself struggling to get a good night’s sleep, the answer might be to snuggle up with your pooch.

It’s a common rule with dog owners to ban your dogs from the bedroom. However, this new study might have you wanting to rethink your position on the matter.

The study by researchers at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York done back in 2018 has resurfaced after it highlighted some interesting benefits of sharing a bed with your pet.

According to the research, letting your dog sleep in your bed can help you get a better night’s sleep.

The study surveyed the sleeping patterns of 962 women in America. They found that 57% of women shared a bed with another human, 55% with a dog and 31% with a cat.

Those who slept alongside their pooch were found to have a more restful night’s sleep.

The study also highlighted that those who share a bed with their dog are likely to go to bed earlier and get up earlier.

The researchers explained: “Compared with human bed partners, dogs who slept in the owner’s bed were perceived to disturb sleep less and were associated with stronger feelings of comfort and security.”

It’s great news for dog owners but for those with cats not so great! The study found that cats are just as disruptive in bed as human partners.

Cats are ‘associated with weaker feelings of comfort and security than both humans and dog bed partners’.

What do you think, will you be changing up your patterns now?
