Former Leeds Rhino captain Kevin Sinfield has completed his mammoth ‘101 miles in 24 hours’ fundraiser, raising more than £900,000 in the process and counting.

Sinfield, who now coaches Leicester Tigers, set off on his challenge from the Welford Road Stadium yesterday, November 22nd, with the aim to raise £100,000 for the Leeds Hospitals Charity and Motor Neurone Disease Association, which helps patients and their families in Leeds.

His motivation came after his best friend and former Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2019.

The forty-one-year-old ran from the Tigers’ Welford Road ground all the way to Headingley – the length of almost four marathons – non-stop inside a twenty-four hour time period.

And this morning, he ended his epic route at Headingley Rugby Stadium, where he was greeted by Burrow, family and friends and a whole stadium of cheering fans.

Sinfield said, as per ITV News: “That’s what teams do, we stick together. We still look after each other, that’s the great thing about rugby.

“I’ve said it before, when someone is in a bit of bother, a bit of strife, the Batman sign goes up and the group will come, that’s probably the strength of that group of players.

“That’s rugby, isn’t it? Perhaps not all teams have it but ours did.”

Though this isn’t the first time that Sinfield has gone out of his way to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association; last December, the rugby coach raised over £2.7 million for the charity after running seven marathons in seven days.

And in September, Burrows backed a £5M charity appeal to build The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease, a state-of-the-art purpose-built care centre for those living with the disease in and around the Leeds area.
