Hairy Bikers chef Dave Myers has praised his ‘amazing’ friend Si King for his help throughout his cancer diagnosis.

Myers, who makes up one half of the Northern cooking duo with King, revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer in May this year and, while he didn’t specify the exact diagnosis, the sixty-four-year-old said the ‘prognosis is okay’ and vowed to beat the illness.

And in a recent interview with BBC Radio Cumbria, Myers has paid tribute to his friend, who he said has been ‘indispensable’.

He explained: “The very first week before all the treatment started you have a week of going round hospitals, it was enormous pressure on Lil my partner, but Si was the one who drove me around for a week.

“I’m doing all right, I wouldn’t say I was the best I’ve ever been, I’ve had quite a lot of chemotherapy but it’s working.”

Myers added that his numbers are ‘going in the right direction’, and even revealed that his hair and beard are both beginning to grow back.

He admitted that the loss of his hair was particularly difficult, and when he started to lose it during the second round of chemotherapy he decided to shave the rest off himself.

Though he added it was ‘very funny being anonymous all of a sudden’.

Speaking of his hair loss on an episode of his Agony Uncles podcast last month, Myers said: “It’s the beard I miss, though. I just miss having my beard, the feeling of it, because your skin’s different and all peachy.

“I’m missing my beard, but doing alright. I was born with that beard.”

He added: “No, I want my beard back. I’m alright with my hair – I think the bald head and beard’s the way to go for a biker.”
