Frustrated woman calls out Aldi shoppers who pack their shopping at the till

A frustrated Aldi shopper has divided opinions this week with her stance on those who pack their bags at the till.

The woman posted her view into the popular Facebook group, Aldi UK Shoppers, where fans of the budget supermarket can share their experiences, both positive and negative.

Writing in a post earlier in the week, the irritated woman wrote: “Why do people that use Aldi not understand you don’t pack a trolley full of food into your bags at the till!!!!

“That’s the whole point! Annoying… Very annoying.”

Now, Aldi has become famous for its worker’s speedy scan and pack process, with many being simply unable to keep up with the barrage of items flying through the scanner. 

But some people don’t feel the pressure like others do (an admirable trait, I have to admit) and enjoy packing their shopping at their own pace there and then at the till, rather than throwing it into the trolley to worry about in the carpark.

While many may see this as an organised and a well put together hack, it turns out that many shoppers seem to think it’s an Aldi way of life to pack away from the till.

One social media user commented: “I pack at the packing area as it’s just what you do at Aldi. It keeps prices down… If your bags are already set up and you can quickly pack then great but if not move to the bench and pack there.”

Though on the other hand, one self-assured shopper noted: “I will continue to pack at the till, because I’m faster than they scan items. I even pack my bags in categories too!”

An Aldi spokesperson has previously revealed that the reason behind their speedy (if not a little anxiety-inducing) checkout experience is that staff are ‘encouraged to be as efficient as possible which helps us to keep prices low for our customers.’
